My birthday landed on a Friday which was really nice. The ladies at work got me a Pink Bromeliad Plant and took me out to lunch, my choice. I don't really know too many places in that area and so I chose mexican. Unfortunately, someone let it slip that it was my birthday and I had to take my picture in a Sombreo. Oh well it was fun!
I decided to split up my Birthday Treats to the Sunday before and after. The unday before, Granny Nanny came up to babysit while Graham and I went to Cha Cha Cha! for lunch and then to see How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. It was a great movie and we had a lot of fun. I now am much more concerned about what Oliver hears (Daddy's has been working on his colorful language...) and I kept catching myself during the movie, sort of gasping internally. I would then quickly realize that Oliver wasn't there and it was fine. I felt rather silly about that and something I wouldn't have thought of before I now notice a lot.
The Saturday after my birthday, my Dad came up to visit Oliver and I and to do a little birthday shopping. I have been wanting an iPod for a while now, pretty much since Graham got one last year at Christmas (i know, we are WAY behind the times...we actually were against them , the mainstream, drones walking the streets...after riding the MAX for a year I saw the positive, but was still against the iPod itself. We are now converts.) I had every intention of getting the new Nano and my toughest decision was going to be what color to choose. Then I saw the iTouch. I wondered aloud if it had PDA features and found that it did, then inquired if you had to pay a fee to use the wireless connection (something you have to do for a blackberry even if you don't intend to use the internet features) and found it was free. At that point it was a no brainer for me. I love it and Graham is extremely jealous!
Sunday was SHOPPING DAY!! woo hoo!! It is a tradition that my Mom and I started awhile ago and haven't done it the past 2 years. It was a lot of fun and I got some great clothes not to mention an amazing red coat. Oliver got his first look at pumpkins and really enjoyed them a lot.
After shopping we headed over to La Guadalahara for lunch. Another tradition. Great taqueria food.
Tuesday was when Oliver started at the new sitters and that has been going great.
This past Sunday we lucked out with beautiful weather and a family outing. First we went to breakfast, well by the time we were seated it was after noon, and had an amazing breakfast. Besaw's is this great little place that started as a saloon by 2 Canadian Loggers in 1905 with money from Henry Weinhard himself. The original bar is still in place fully stocked.
Next we headed to Sauvie Island to The Pumpkin Patch. It took us about 30 mins to go maybe 3 miles as traffic was so bad. I knew that do to TLC, The Roloff Farm is always extremely busy but didn't expect it here. Turns out, it is the Original pumpkin patch. I mostly chose it because it had the patch as well as an animal barn. There are also hayrides, the cow pull, the corn maze, fresh caramel apples, kettle corn, elephant ears and more. We stood in line for 30 mins for a caramel apple (a girl's gotta have her caramel apple!)
We weren't very well prepared. Since my brain is mush, I didn't even think of bringing a stroller or better yet, Oliver's Birthday wagon. We carried him all over (mostly Daddy) and all the way out to the patch. Since he isn't walking yet, this trip was a little challenging. Most of the pumpkins in the field were rotten and kids were running around jumping on them. The we would find a good one and it wouldn't have a stem, I'm a stickler about stems. Finally I suggested that we go back to the Pre-picked pumpkins. Within 5 mins. we had 4 pumpkins. Oliver couldn't choose between 2 little ones so we got both. I guess 1 for each of us!
Too bad his eyes are closed...but I love the colors!
I didn't get very many pictures at the patch as Graham doesn't understand the need for a Mama to take cute semi-posed/staged pictures of her babies so this weekend will be setting up Oliver on the porch with our pumpkins and snapping away.
