1st Day of School

 Ready for School!
Not even caring that Mommy, Daddy & Henri were leaving...

Oliver has taken to school like a fish to water. He absolutely LOVES it. Why wouldn't he? He gets to paint, play with sand, play with trains and ride bikes! He never wants to leave and the day I was a Parent Helper, I had to carry him out of school screaming and crying...so embarassing!

He loves being with other kids and it is so fun watching how different his personality is at school versus at home. After the first day, I already noticed a change in him.

On another note, he had his Well Child doctor visit this past week. A perfectly healthy, skinny boy. He is in the 21st percentile for weight and 31st for height! ha ha! Though he seems to have all of a sudden gotten his appetite back after about 18months of eating like a bird...I think my prediction of a growth spurt might be right on the nose...

School Days

Next month Oliver starts Preschool! Oh my.
I am very excited that for this new adventure in his life and ours. I don't think Graham is though...means more work for him and having to figure out our car situation a bit more! I do wish I could be home to take him to school and pick him up...I can't believe that we are already to this point and he will be 3 in less than a month! his language is getting very good even if he is still a bit hard to understand! School will be 2 days a week for 1 1/2 hours. Not long, but I think both him and Henri will benefit.

Oliver is very excited as well. We visited the school last week to meet the teacher and see if she felt that he was ready to start school. The Portland School District has an age cut off date of Sept. 1st. When the time comes for him to start Kindergarten, we can request that he be tested and let in 2 1/2 weeks before his 5th birthday, but if they find that he isn't up to their standards we can leave him at Rose City for another year. Apparently it has become very common to test the kids again after Kindergarten and potentially move them ahead past 1st grade. I don't really care that much, but I do think he needs to get out of the house on his own, make friends and work with other adults.

I just HAD to pick him up that backpack. He actually chose it. I let him choose between Buzz Lightyear and the Paul Frank Monkeys in Space. This week I have to go to the fabric store and I will pick him out some fabric to make him his own lunch bag.

The other day I told him not to hit or kick his brother or they wouldn't let him go to school. Last night as I was reading him a bedtime story I asked him about school and he said " No hitting or kick." Such a smart boy!
