The Trick

We have been struggling with Oliver eating for the past few months. He will always eat cheese, some form of cracker, P,B & J, beans, rice & chips, and fruit treats from Gerber. There are a lot of foods that he will eat but it is a guessing game when. He LOVES any form of potato but we were having a hard time getting him to eat. He was only wanting the types of food that aren't the greatest, tater tots, french fries, chicken nuggets..
With Graham being home a lot the past few weeks, he was getting really frustrated. Making really nice dinners only to have Oliver say No!, cry and dump an entire plate of food on the floor. We tried taking bites as well, showing him we were eating the same thing and waiting to see if he decided he wanted to try some. Sometimes that worked, but you never knew how much he would eat, and it was pretty much a given he wasn't going to eat the meat.
Last week we think we discovered the trick! He wants to be involved. We knew he loves to watch Daddy in the kitchen but we didn't realize how much. Last week Graham took Oliver out to the BBQ to show him wht he was doing. That night he ate his food! So now, every night, Graham takes Oliver into the kitchen and/or the backyard to show him what he is doing. He explains all the steps and Oliver asks "What is That?" "What is That?" When dinner is done he happily gets in his chair and eats! Even meat! One day this week we had pork and that was most of what he ate on his tray. Another day he was all about the green beans and then another he ate the hamburger too (not just the ketchup).
Woo hoo!!
Now we just have to try to get this to work when we travel too...
I think he is going to just LOVE the new house and being able to go in the kitchen to see what is going on. Maybe he can even play along with his pots and pans.
